BULGARIA (AP) Authorities released a video Friday showing a suspect and an accomplice who authorities say opened fire on people in a crowded restaurant in Bulgaria’s second-largest city.
Bulgarian police say the gunman opened fire in the crowded restaurant on Sunday afternoon, killing at least 12 people and wounding 10 others.
Bulgaria has seen a spike in violence this year in a wave of attacks blamed on the former communist government.
Police said in a statement the man was arrested Sunday after an initial investigation.
He was also arrested on charges of attempted murder and possession of firearms, the statement said.
The two suspects, both 22, are being held in the city of Gevgelija, the state security service said.
A total of 13 people were killed and at least 13 more were wounded in the shooting, the interior ministry said.
Bulgarsia has been struggling with a string of deadly attacks that the government blames on the country’s former communist leaders, who were overthrown in a 1989 uprising.
The government blames the violence on foreign terrorists.
But the government has been criticized for failing to curb crime in the capital.
